Low Res City – Realised Augmentity, Y5. Tutors: Prof. Laura Allen and Prof. Mark Smout. The ‘Augmented Carving’ technique attempts to conciliate the digital and the handmade. Taking the idea of how a maestro like Michelangelo would see his future artifact within the raw block of marble as inspiration, Augmented Reality is here used for the first time as interactive guideline within a block of limewood. Two trackers are fixed to top and bottom of the carving blank, allowing Machine Vision software to overlay the camera image with an uploaded 3D model used as constant reference.
