Netzgemeinschaft - Temporary living project in Antwerp, Y3, with Johanna Just. Tutor: Prof. Micheal Schumacher. The area in Antwerps Schipperskwartier will change soon due to gentrification, the quarter will get massively densified in the next 5 to 10 years. Knowing about the quarter’s future, a building gap on Falconplein could serve as an interesting field for spatial and sociological experiments. The temporary design is subdivided into two aspects: a wooden topography is linking the inner yard and the street, creating various zones with different qualities for urban gardening, concerts or markets. The netting structure above stretches between the two adjacent buildings and suspends cocoons as accommodation for tired travellers. Where mass accommodation normally comes with an architecture dominated by spatial isolation, here it‘s the opposite: The community influences the whole structure. Every inhabitant determines the shape of the whole with his or her weight, walk and behaviour. The abandoned warehouse on the right is integrated in the concept for facilities. Showers, lockers and toilets are seen as prefabricated and reusable modules.
